I'm struggling a bit amidst the daily panic and sadness that seems to be present all too much at the moment. So I was wondering how everyone else finds purpose/meaning in their lives when what you thought would be happening isn't just yet?

It's difficult and a lot to cope with. We've had false starts with natural pregnancies and miscarriages and failed ICSI rounds.
I've had some counselling and read books on acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness. These seem to be helping but I still have wobbles, like yesterday, and try to use a variety of techniques to cope as best as I can.
have you been offered counselling or have you got a good friend or family member you can talk to? I also kept a journal during our investigations and rounds of treatment. I try to keep busy and have various hobbies and have events planned. I'm choosing carefully who I spend time with.
Unfortunately there isn't a magic answer, I wish there was.
Similar to PM27 I try to have distraction techniques to keep my life busy. Socialising, family, holidays etc. I've not been down the counselling route just yet but can see it being required some day. That said the things I mention are exactly that- distraction. I am thinking of attending an open day next week to get some info on voluntary work in social care to give my life renewed focus outside of 'baby making' (or lack thereof). Have you thought about some volunteer work etc? xx
I know this feeling all to well! I went for some counselling at the end of last year which really helped me process my feelings and like you say, find a renewed purpose in life. Although it's still difficult I am coping a lot better now and feeling a lot more relaxed. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
Otherwise all you can do is try to keep busy. The counsellor suggested I try tai chi (or Pilates/Yoga) which I found relaxed me and helped me to sleep. I also find reading good for distracting myself. I think everyone has their own ways of coping.
Take care x
Hi Maria-Louisa. I am really passionate about finding purpose in life and I truly believe you can find purpose and meaning in life even on the journey. This was our personal experience as well what I help clients to do. I did a webinar for INUK on finding purpose in life on the fertility journey, you may enjoy watching it. The replay of the webinar is here:
Thank you so much everyone for all your suggestions, I will consider them all and put them into practice and see which work best.
And Russell, thank you, I've just listened to the webinar and there's plenty of food for thought. Currently doing a bit of soul searching of the questions you pose and hope that it helps. I will PM you if I have questions.
