Date For Surgery!!!...

So after my MRI scan I received a letter from my consultant saying I need to phone and arrange a mutually convenient date for surgery....a little confused as last time I saw him he said there was absolutely no way he was prepared to operate any more on my stomach as I already have an awful amount of scar tissue on my belly!!! He did say that before IVF could begin he would need to plug my tubes to stop them releasing anything into my womb that could damage a foetus! so I am kind of hoping that this is the procedure I am going for??...it is non-surgical so the word surgery confused me a little?? Anyway I called them and an appointment has been made for the 11th May at 2.30 pm....fingers crossed my MRI was ok.....Just hate all the waiting but I am sure it will be worth it in the end I hope!! good luck everyone with your treatment xxxx

Hi liz1985. I think what your consultant is referring to is that he/she will not have to do any major procedure on you again. However, to sort your tubes out, you will need to have a “keyhole” procedure done through your belly button. You would be amazed at what can be achieved during this, and most probably your consultant will be able to remove some of the adhesions you have acquired along the way. It is so good to know that you are having this done, as any condition that causes fluid to remain in the tubes can be problematic. The tubes have a natural lubrication in them to allow sperm to swim and the egg to travel down. Occasionally, the end of the tube(s) called “fimbriae” stick together, or adhesions/scarring can form along them. This then blocks the “exit” for excess fluid to escape. There is then only one way out for this fluid to go, and that is through the womb end of the tube. Many consultants now believe that this excess of fluid can prevent implantation of a developing embryo, as it can be “washed” out, so best to have them clipped/removed. Waiting is a nightmare, but realistically it is not too far away. Obviously, I do wish you well with all of this. Diane

Thanks Diane ...

That's really helpful to me at least now I know roughly what to expect .,. Consultant said there is a small chance that the plugs he wants to put in my tubes won't fit in which case surgery would be the only other option so now it's just a case of crossing my fingers and hoping he manages to fit them! Your reply was really helpful to me thanku so much and wish you all the best as well
