I would like to ask what is the condi... - Fertility Network UK
I would like to ask what is the condition of an insemination? We live in the UK for 2 years! Thank you!
Hi Henike. Not too sure what you are asking here, but if you have been having problems trying to conceive, you should see your GP to have some blood hormone tests to check your fertility and that you are ovulating each month. Your husband/partner would need to have a semen analysis carried out too. If there is a problem, you will be referred to a specialist in infertility for further investigations and then appropriate treatment would be prescribed for you. If you are looking to have artificial insemination privately, you will still need to have certain investigations e.g. a test to check the patency of your Fallopian tubes, hormone checking and semen analysis. If you are looking for a clinic privately, they are all listed on the following website hfea.gov.uk alternatively, if you are eligible for treatment on the NHS, your GP will refer you as I mentioned before. I wish you well with whatever is decided. Diane
Hi Henike. It all depends what has caused your partner’s problem. If is due to medication he may be on, then perhaps your doctor could change it to a different one. If it has been caused by some damage to the nerves to the entrance of his bladder, then you will both need to be referred to an infertility specialist to collect sperm from his urine samples. Once this is done, and if there is enough good quality sperm, it could possibly be used in intra-uterine insemination. If not, then perhaps IVF would solve the problem. Rest assured that there are many options to try, so best to get referred as soon as possible for the correct treatment. Hope all works out well for you both. Diane
Thank you very much for your response.
First, we will have to go to our family doctor and he will continue to send us to the right place?
Unfortunately we could not really speak English. Is there any possibility of an interpreter at insemination?
Have a common child but we are not married. This is a problem?
I am very grateful to you! You gave me hope!
Hi Henike. You can get your family doctor to refer you to a clinic, but as one of you has a child, you will have to pay for the treatment. Arrangements can always be made for you to have an interpreter present when you see the specialist, but just make sure you let them know beforehand. Diane
Hi. I think you need to ask your GP to refer you first of all. There may be some treatment your partner can have on the NHS before you have any private treatment. At least they will do all the investigations and advise you what further treatment you need. Diane
Do let me know how you get on. Diane
