Hi! I’m still in my first trimester and we’re going for our first Christmas meal tomorrow. I have been trying to figure out what I can and cannot eat. I’ve looked at the restaurant menu and am I correct in thinking that stuffing (made outside the turkey) is safe to eat? I think everything else is off limits: prawn cocktail, smoked salmon, terrines/pates, baked Camembert and tiramisu? X

Do’s and Don’ts for Xmas dinner
Hi, I had a similar conversation with my midwife earlier this week and yes you should be fine with the stuffing. The issue I've got is the traditional dinner served at my meal has red wine gravy on it 🙄
Red wine gravy should be fine? The alcohol is gone with cooking etc and is a tiny amount to begin with 🤗
Thats why I was checking with midwife but she's told me to avoid it and anything that potentially has alcohol in so I'm just going to follow that advice 😊
strange mine said it was okay, and I didnt even ask her it was just one of the things she rhymed off as okay as she had been asked a few times lately, but yeah no pint in chancing it we’ve enough to worry about xx
Hi Pugs,
Congratulations - it’s tricky navigating this isn’t it! So, I understand the following;
Stuffing is ok, if cooked outside the Turkey.
Prawns are ok as they are cooked.
Shop bought Tiramisu is ok, you just want to avoid it if it has raw eggs in it. I think it’s gross anyway, so will be avoiding 😂
Camembert is ok if cooked and piping hot. (Some may disagree) Avoid blue cheeses, Brie and pate’s.
Game meat, any raw meat, cold cured meat (although I’m a bit lax on that one!)
So, still plenty to eat!! Enjoy your dinner 😀
no you can have most things! Baked Camembert fine as it’s baked (cooked cheese even if un pasteurised is fine). Prawns are fine, stuffing cooked in or outside the bird is fine as long as fully cooked. Anything fully cooked is fine as that kills all germs. Smoked salmon is recommended to avoid and pates you should avoid. Tiramisu prob has alcohol so can be avoided.
Enjoy!
