I was wondering if anyone has had qn extra scan in pregnancy due to tapering off, not staying on the same line on the growth graph.
I just had a regular appointment with my midwife, with listened to my babies heartbeat which was fine. When she measured my belly with a tape measure and put the measurements into the computer/graph, it showed a slight tapering off from the line it had been following. So now I've got an appointment for an extra scan in a few days. Should I be worried? I also keep thinking my baby is less active. I get a small kick every now and then but feel like it was more before. But we did listen today and heartbeat was good. I'm 29.5 weeks.
Hello! I am currently 34 weeks pregnant and had a similar thing happening to me. Based on measuring my fundal height with the tape measure at 32 weeks my growth curve fell from being previously close to 90th percentile to almost 50th. At my growth scan the following day, however, baby measured even above 97th percentile which then prompted a repeat Glucose Tolerance Test. Unfortunately, the tape measure method is rather inaccurate, and even the scan measurements cannot guarantee an accurate prediction of baby's size. If you are at all worried about your baby's movement slowing down or getting less noticeable, please don't be shy to call Triage right away so they can check you and baby over. It is never too much trouble for them and they had rather you called them when even slightly in doubt. They are there to reassure you, especially as you have now entered precious viability territory! Wishing you all the best for your pregnancy! x
Thanks for this. Yes I feel it could be really inaccurate. Like I hadn't had lunch today with the small measurement, it could be as simple as that! I think my baby has also been 97th centile! Thanks so much for your messege congrats on your pregnancy, not long! Xx
I had a similar experience and had to go for a scan and baby was growing as they should be. I was also concerned at the time and being made to wait even a few days can be torturous. If you are concerned with babies movements, like the other ladies have said, speak to triage and have them check for you.
Hi, the tape measure thing is really not accurate ! I was sent for a growth scan twice as my fundal height had apparently not changed at all… the baby was fine and it was actually in a very high percentile ! She is now almost 7 months 💕
