I'm currently 5 weeks pregnant and increasingly nervous about the next 6-7 weeks as I've read they are the worst for morning sickness.
I have emetophobia (fear of vomiting) and I just wondered if anyone else has gone through this and how they coped?
I should also add that I never vomit - the last time was nearly 20 years ago! Even when I got food poisoning last year, I retched but never actually threw up. Does this mean I'm less likely to throw up during pregnancy?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi CatMumtoHumanMum. You may not even get it, just maybe a feeling of nausea. It comes as part of the package I’m afraid, but your GP should be able to help you. Good luck. Diane
Hi lovely, as Diane says, morning sickness may not even be an issue for you. I definitely felt nauseated during the first trimester - it always got worse for me in the evenings - but I never actually threw up. But some women don't even have nausea...it's just a bit of guess as to how your body will respond!
The best thing you can do to head off any nausea is to keep well-hydrated and eat little snacks throughout the day - protein is best. I found that if I let myself get too hungry or thirsty then the nausea would get worse and I wouldn't want to eat anything (a vicious cycle!), but if I forced myself to eat even a small snack I would feel better almost immediately. It's much more pleasant just to never let yourself get hungry and avoid the nausea altogether. 😅 I also found that adding some electrolyte powder to my water seemed to help.
My doctor also told me that I could take extra vitamin B6 (10-25 mg, 3x per day) to help with morning sickness. I didn't end up needing it, but it's something to keep in mind in case the above recommendations don't help.
You'll be great, try not to worry. And as Diane says, your GP is available if you end up need anti-emetics or anything stronger. Congrats on your pregnancy! xx
hello there. I felt nauseous from week 4 and it is still there a bit but less. I’m currently 10w2d. I was sick couple of times but only because I didn’t have any mint near by. I always made sure to have mint sweets or herbal, anything like that helped me get through without being sick a lot. Hope that helps
Hey. Congratulations on your pregnancy! I was the same as soccerkt. I had nausea on and off but I was never actually sick or even felt like I might be. I made sure I always had some snacks on me because I found getting hungry was what made me feel nauseous, it went away when I ate. I had some days / weeks where I had no nausea at all - that caused another load of stress thinking I’d lost the baby but all was good! Definitely speak to your GP if needs be but it might not be the worry you’re thinking it will be xx
much like others on here, had the nausea but no sickness. Eating helped, always had some almonds on me. You just don’t know how your body is going to react but don’t fear the worst. It is what it is and there is plenty of tips and tricks. Mine switched off like a light switch at 12 weeks too, so it’s only a short period in the grand scheme. Best of luck for your pregnancy 🍀
