Got a cold during first trimester.

I got a cold last Wed and I recovered now. I didn't have a fever, just initially sore throat, coughing, blocked nose. I recovered now. I am strong in normal time, however, since I got pregnant become weaker.

I worry catching a cold any impact on my pregnancy, especially during first trimester? Can you share your experience with me?

Should I request to take the flu jab during first trimester (I haven't stopped the ivf medicines yet)? Or should I take the flu jab after first trimester? If I take the flu jab now, do I need to take another one (winter flu jab) later?

I am so worry about catching a cold or flu during pregnancy , I really can't control it. I tried to wear masks out all the time. I hope it will help a little bit. I will have another scan soon hopefully my baby is ok.

hello I honestly wouldn’t worry about it. In my first trimester I had a bloomin awful cold and then a sickness and diarrhoea bug 😂🤦‍♀️ me and baby are both good xxx

Thanks for sharing your experience with me. I was so worried, when I was coughing I felt so guilty...I am 10 weeks now.

Did you take any flu jab/ winter jab?

no I decided that I wouldn’t get them this year. I’ve had a couple of colds I believe picking these up will give the baby a better immunity xxx

I see. I never have any flu jab. I did have two doses COVID vaccine (Pfizer) 1.5 year ago. I don't want to take flu jab but at the same time I am so afraid of catching cold/ flu again...I may take one in winter time but not sure whether it will help or not...I guess wearing a mask out is the solution to protect against the virus or bacterias.

Hi, your baby will be fine - in pregnancy your immune system is so low. We’re going into spring summer so you’re unlikely to catch the flu but I’d look to get it in the second or third trimester (depending when you’re due and the next flu jab is available, ie in Sept). I had covid jabs in my first pregnancy and flu jabs and my son is totally fine. I’d rather be protected but that’s my choice and you have to do what’s best for you and your family.

In this pregnancy I had a bad stomach bug in my first trimester and baby is completely fine (I’m now 21 weeks) and in my second trimester I had a bad cold from my little one and it took me about 4 weeks to recover (he was back to normal after 3 days) . If it will put you at ease you can discuss with your ivf consultant or nurse x

Thanks for sharing your experience with me. I also consider taking a winter jab, Sept will be third trimester for me. I felt so scared, especially coughing, I felt my belly shaking.. I really don't want to catch cold/flu during pregnancy...like you said, having a jab is the only thing we can protect ourselves and the baby.

Catching a cold won't impact anything. I've had covid and a number of colds (no fever with any of these though) since I got pregnant and everything has been absolutely fine. It's more if you get something that gives you a high fever, but normal cold bugs where you have no fever wouldn't have any impact.

As for the flu vaccine, I believe this is something that all pregnant women are offered around the second trimester. It's just a precaution to prevent you getting the flu which could lead to you getting a fever.

Thanks for sharing with me. Yes, it seems very common to get a cold during pregnant. I didn't have fever, I guess it was just normal cold bugs so I didn't visit gp and took rest at home to recover. I had Covid vaccine before so it may give us a bit protection.

I will take a winter flu jab later on, just in case catching serious illness.
