when to track baby’s movements?

hi all,

I’m a day off 18 weeks and been feeling slight movements most days (second baby). Should I feel them every day once I have felt them? I get panicky when I don’t.

I don’t think I even felt movements until I was past 20 weeks with my little boy.

Thanks xx

You should be able to feel your baby move between about 16 to 24 weeks of pregnancy The movement felt can vary day to day For more info take a look at nhs.uk" Your baby's movements "

Keep well and good luck

I've been obsessing about this since about 18 weeks too (first pregnancy). I think it took me until around 24 weeks to feel something every day, and to be honest it's still a bit up and down at 26.5 weeks. I've been able to feel her every day for the past few weeks, BUT there's quite a bit of variety. Some days (like today!) I feel her very often, but then I'll have a quiet day or two which just sends me up the wall. Sunday and Monday were a bit like that 😢and I just hate those days, all the old doubts and anxieties I'm trying so hard to push out just creep right back!

I've posted on here about movements, and some ladies say they never really get a regular pattern their entire pregnancy. I haven't started really 'monitoring' kicks yet, as i think she's probably still a bit small. But I have taken myself to Maternity Units twice in the last 6 weeks, when I was worried, and they were great. So never feel afraid to do that if you are really anxious something isn't right. But at 18 weeks baby will still be very small and movements can easily be missed, so I'd try not to worry if you don't feel things all the time 💚

Hang in there xx

Hi, no I think you’re fine at this stage. I only really started feeling movements every day around 22 weeks. I spoke to a midwife at my anatomy scan because was freaking out that like you I’d felt movement on and off from about 17-18 weeks but would go whole days or even more without feeling anything and she said that was completely normal. I agree though that normal or not it’s a very stressful stage! Xx

Thanks that’s really helpful xx

Hey just to say like the others have said I think you are a bit early. I am on my first but didn't feel anything until just before 20 weeks and then it was very erratic for weeks. My MW said monitor from 24 weeks for a pattern but when I did some googling the general consensus seemed to be more like monitor from 28 weeks. I am one of those people that never got a real 'pattern'. There are a few things that get her going more than others (loud music, hand dryers, being in the car) but that's about it. I did see somewhere that the idea of a pattern suggests in my head at least that s/he will do x at 8am then something else at 10am etc., but in reality what they are looking for is 'do they react how they normally would to that stimulus (whatever it is). I also have a few quiet days intermingled with busy days the rest of the time and was told as long as the busy days returned then maybe quiet days was just her thing? I have never really got to the bottom of it but like the others said if you are worried at all never hesitate to go in x

I obsess over movements too. I'm almost 24 weeks now and in the last week or so I would say I usually feel her every day at some point, but the pattern of movements really varies. Some days I feel her in the morning, other days nothing until after lunch. I find the whole "lie on your side and focus on movements" advice pretty useless as every time I have tried that, she has been completely quiet. I think it is just the new thing for us to worry about and suspect I'll worry at least once a day from now until DD!
