Can pregnant women get the new bivalvent Covid booster?

Hi guys,

Hope you are well!

Was going to go to a walk in to get my covid jab soon but not sure if pregnant women should be getting the new type (bivalent) or the old type. Does anyone know? I have asked my doctor but waiting for her to get back to me.

I just read an article in the Financial Times that the new vaccine you mention hadn't had any human trials....

I was waiting to see what they say at my next hospital appointment re vaccines. I have had 3 already so wasn't sure whether they will tell me to get another one...

Interested to know what your doctor says....

Yes, I read that article too. My doctor has said it’s fine to get the updated vaccine so long as it’s Pfizer or Moderna. Seems like the UK is satisfied with the clinical data for the safety of the vaccine. It’s a bit nerve wracking having an updated vaccine, but I believe on balance the risks of contracting Covid (particularly at my stage in 3rd trimester) are greater, and the technology of the updated vaccine is the same as the previous one so should be okay. Xxx

Hi there, I had the new vaccine as an NHS worker & was very similar to the last one. It was given to me by a midwife who said they are strongly recommending it due to the effects of covid especially in the 3rd trimester. A close unvaccinated friend was incredibly unwell with covid in 3rd trimester and was admitted to hospital twice. She is now pregnant again and getting this vaccine after her experience. It is such a difficult decision and I fully respect everyone’s right to choose based on the evidence available to them.x

Thanks, lovely. Yes, I am very pro Covid vaccine, I was just a little nervous because I couldn’t find anything online specifically saying the new bivalent one was safe for pregnant women. But now my doctor has confirmed it’s okay, I’ll be getting it this week! Xxx
