Advice needed! Long haul flight

Hi everyone,

I hope you’re all well and your pregnancies are ticking along nicely!

I need your advice.. my partner and I are considering a long overdue holiday and have the chance to go away in March for 2 weeks. I will be nearly 19 weeks by then (still can believe it). The flight is 7 hours, 2 hour layover, then 5 hours on another flight, seems long! I’m on Clexane already so my chances of DVT are minimised and I will move around at every opportunity too.

Does anyone know of any reason not to go? The country is safe, no Zika virus, there may be mosquitos but nothing else of particular danger. I’ve really protected myself since becoming pregnant and am nervous to leave my bubble! Thoughts? Thanks everyone xxx

Sounds amazing! I'm planning to go away in April when I'll be about 25-26 weeks... Where are you thinking of going?

From my extensive Googling (!) I'd say speak to your midwife / consultant just to make sure they're happy with it which I'm sure they will be... Take your hospital notes and make sure there is a decent hospital where you're going?

Drink lots of water on the plane, wear those attractive stockings and walk about lots. (which you prob will be to go to the toilet!) And just take same precautions about food and drink as you're doing at home... Xxx

Hi lovely, thank you for your reply :) So this should’ve been our honeymoon (thank you covid!) but so happy for it to be our baby moon instead. The options are the Seychelles or The Canary Islands, obviously with the Seychelles being the much further afield option. It really looks so amazing! But for the less travel stress and no changing of time zone options the Canaries in a nice hotel would also be amazing.. Where abouts are you going?Thank you for all the tips x x x

Both sound lovely., especially after Covid.

We are thinking of going to Lanzarote... it will be about 24 degrees which is perfect for me and flight about 4 hours. Hubby wanted to go further afield but I'm not a great flyer / fan of aeroplane toilets so he's happy to compromise!I spoke to my doc again yesterday and she said all of the above tips - main ones are keeping hydrated, wearing stockings on flights and moving about lots.

I can't wait to get something booked to look forwards to and to see the sun again! xx
