I'm not good at introductions

67 years old and recently found out my cirrhosis was back and probably should have been under a Dr.s care sooner. I was 15 when I got Hepatitis, went to same Dr for about 15 years and he retired and told me at the time he didn't see any need for me to continue appointments as he was retiring. Now 52 years later I'm in this boat.

Hi and welcome, although I’m sure you’d rather not be here. I’m sorry to hear your news. Can I ask how you found out the cirrhosis was back?

I had to have surgery for a hernia that I had for about 5 years, it popped out and I couldn’t get it back in. It was a navel hernia. Blood tests before surgery showed I had something going on with enzymes. The rest is history now.

Did you have any other tests besides bloodwork? Ultrasound, CT, Fibroscan? Elevated enzymes don’t necessarily mean cirrhosis. They can be caused by inflammation in your liver.

Yes I currently go to a hepatology Dr that specializes in liver and gastroenterology and is head of transplant at UNMC in Omaha. They currently have me scheduled for transplant evaluation that takes 3 days. Thank heaven I have a supportive family, as the the thought scares me to death.

Did you get annual physicals with blood work?

Only when I was sick like covid a couple of years ago. As far as how extensive the blood work was I don't know. I very rarely if ever went to a Dr. The Dr I used to go to retired and I just never thought about getting another.
