After reading Wayne's article about divorcing doctors I couldn't believe it. Altho my story was a little different, the divorce was really similar. My doctor is leaving, moving to Texas. I was NOT referred to another nor are they hiring, I guess. He told me that I will continue to see the NP and that if I happen to need a Hepatologist. I can make as appointment with one from Henry Ford in Detroit that comes to my area 6 times per year or go there which is a two hour drive one way. I hope I will never be in need!!

Well I would think you might search out a hepatoligist to at least go once a year for checkups...
He said I would be going to the NP for the yearly ultrasound and the two blood test he normally orders. We never had a face to face after test unless there was a problem. We just had a phone appointment. Then I go to my primary every 3 months for all other blood work with face to face. He said if the day comes where I need to see a Hepatologist, the NP would refer me to one that visits my area or I can go there. Guess it's how they do things anymore, and if I need a gastroligist, I would be referred to one in their local office. Hopefully, I won't need one anytime soon but it's nice to know if I do there's one available. They are all located at the Liver Institute at the Detroit MI hospital and travel to outer locations periodically.
