Husband’s Cancer doctor suggested he take melatonin for sleep. I was researching it. On sciencedirect.com I read article on efficacy of it for treating NAFLD and NASH. The study was done in Iran in 2022. The results indicate melatonin is surprisingly effective. Any truth or substantiation? Any further studies heard of in our community? Thanks for input

According to a review published in 2018 in the journal Nutrients, melatonin supplementation at 10 mg/day was shown to significantly increase plasma melatonin levels and decrease liver enzymes. Researchers have shown that melatonin supplementation can improve liver mitochondrial function and reduce oxidative stress. Melatonin in hepatocytes plays a protective role against mitochondrial dysfunction and helps to inactivate fibrogenesis according to conclusion. However, in my opinion, one cannot fully rely on single studies.
It was a study by Italian scientists.
