Was diagnosed 18 years ago with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Was told to lose weight even though I was 5'5" tall & weighed 140. Even though I had discussed this with doctors, this was not an on-going part of my care until recently. I ended up with a liver doc who ordered an MRI that said I have Severe Liver Fibrosis. Doc noted it might be cirrhosis. Got this message through an email. Hmmm. Glad I found this group. Still a bit shocked and confused with the numbers on paper. I did send an email back with all my questions.

One of the challenges we have is the fact that somewhere between 10 and 15 percent of cirrhosis patient are thin. They are called lean NASH. Doctors are even worse at diagnosing that condition than regular NASH. It is a real challenge as the standard advice is to lose weight. It is important to think of diet as being non-inflammatory as that is what you need to manage. Not easy but some of this info might help.
