Hi Diane

Im Pam and new to this forum. I have fatty liver as well. Can you tell me what kind of pain you have? Mine is mostly a yucky queasy feeling in my upper stomach. Not a lot of pain, just queasy and it comes and goes. As for diet Im just trying to cut out the high fat and sugary stuff and eat more vegetables by making smoothies and stuff. Also adding more exercise in should help. Hope this helps :)

Hi, my pain is right under the ribs and in my lower back. It sometimes feels like a throbbing pain and it comes and goes and I feel nauseous sometimes also and very fatigued.

Diane, I also get this, but mostly if I overeat, and then, I get the pain/pressure in my upper abdomen, that radiates around my back like band, lasting about 15 minutes..that's the best way I can describe it. I also have gallstones, so not sure if that's the reason, or if its my liver..so confused by all of this..I finally went and had a Fibroscan done, which showed scarring on my liver being moderate to severe. You may want to ask your doctor about this test. Not invasive at all-only about 10 minutes as well. Hope you are feeling better!

Hello Diane. What is working for me wonderful, it's Intermittent fasting. Please check it. It must be started first with the mild natural laxatives to cleanse intestines. Using Intermittent fasting I also took out animal products, gluten free, cow milk is nono also, but eggs and a bit fat fish are ok. Now I'm mostly on vegetables and fruits. Feeling much better. You are on a right way, the diet is very important. Good luck.

Diet... leave all processed food stuffs on the shelf !!!. Avoid white foods eg bread, flour, pasta etc.

Read labels, for low salt fat, also keep an eye on sugar content. No alcohol.

I tend to follow Mediterranean type diet. Fish, ( oily types) not out a can, as they often contain additives. I have fresh, chilled or frozen salmon, bass, sardines. pilchards etc. Fresh chicken, turkey, lean pork medallions.

Vegetables, so many choices, dig in and try, you will get to know which ones are really beneficial in time.

Fruits, the same applies. Try them out, they say the best types are dark berries etc, but also include bananas apples etc. Breakfast I enjoy porridge oats, wheetabix shredded wheat cereal to which I add fruit and / or small sliced banana . Also a few nut on occasions, walnuts pine nuts.

Don’t forget keep well hydrated, plenty of water to keep circulation going and flush toxins, coffee, green tea if you like it. I drink all the different types of teas ginger, turmeric, apple cinnamon etc.

Hopefully you’re gain some ideas from the above snippets.

A final note if you can take it 🤣.

Exercise, I’m not talking Marathons, just regular activities like walking swimming etc.

Welcome to the forum Diane, all best wishes.👌chrissie.

I don’t mean to sound negative but reading all these food words is making me feel so sick!!!!!

Hang in there Splodge60, I realise with your other medical issues it’s not easy for you. Food can be an issue for us all at times, me included!., and several others no doubt. Maybe worth trying small amounts at regular intervals, pick light foods that you would normally enjoy eating, trying to include fresh fruit and veggies. Make extra special attention to keeping your Hydration levels up.

Now loose that negativity !, and you will win.

All best wishes 🙏 👌.

One quick question; is beetroot good for the liver? if yes, please explain the benefits if negative, why? 😄

Hi Jeanette

Beets are an antioxidant rich vegetable. A reasonable addition to a plant based diet. Like anything else, it is probably possible to have too much of a good thing so I personally avoid large doses of any single thing but beets are good nutrition.

Many thanks. A friend of mine would always eat a can of beetroot when hungover and said it was an immediate fix. I have non alcohol related cirrhosis of the liver and diabetes am currently on mediterranean diet and meds for diabetes. I will have to cook my own beetroot to avoid the sugar added to most canned beetroot. Thank you.

That's what we do but we also use them raw like radish is salads

Spinach, broccoli, garlic are 3 good things for the liver and you should overload on them, possibly via smoothies so they don't taste so bad.

Avoid sugar and that includes orange juice which contains just as much sugar as a coke.

Dont eat breakfast cereal as they have ridic amounts of sugar.

good luck

study with a robust participation pool of 293 patients, all of whom had historically proven NASH, was published in the Journal of Gastroenterology. With liver biopsies being taken before and after the study, researchers found that, after a 52-week period of physical activity, most patients had experienced a regression of fat in their liver, with the most significant reduction coming from those who experienced a 10% reduction in weight (6).

After physical activity, diet is the next largest factor contributing to fatty liver disease. The most destructive things for our liver include alcohol as well as processed fats and sugars.
