Hey everyone - happy holidays. Last month a routine abdominal ultrasound showed fatty infiltration. Gastro called me, said same as many other Dr's, just lifestyle related, no further action to be taken. That didn't sit right with me so i made an appt with my PCP to convey my concerns. She reviewed the scans and didn't seem worried either but decided to order a full blood workup nonetheless. Results came back. Everything normal. AST 23 / ALT 27, platelets, hemoglobin, all my liver panels in the normal range.......except that i popped a high ferritin level of 660. PCP referred me to a hematologist to check for hemochromatosis. I understand that she's doing the right thing and covering all bases -- i don't have a family history of this condition so i would be very surprised if i had it. I guess my question is, did anyone else here have a high ferritin level with fatty liver - from what im reading, this is common? For the past month now i've been on a strict plant based diet, no alcohol, etc, but now with the high ferritin i also need to be mindful of iron rich foods which many healthy foods have. Its pretty frustrating. I don't have any symptoms, i am 5 ft 10, 192 lbs, 42 yrs old. Relatively healthy guy. I probably overdid it with the wine (never more than 2 glasses a night with dinner), but rarely if ever drink to get drunk. Now im worried because the iron overload could cause major damage, etc. Any advice would be appreciated.

I had high ferritin but it was the result of infection. They thought at first it was hemochromatosis and took 7 liters of blood before deciding that was wrong and I had NASH instead.
Hi there ! Would be very interested to know if you got the to the bottom of why the levels were so elevated? I too have very high ferritin in my results! 450, but I am 35 year old woman and it’s should be under 150
