As someone who comes from generations of alcoholics, never drank, smoked, took any kinds of drugs....son aged 55 just had liver transplant from drinking, was fortunate enough to have husband and wife, both agreed to donating to him. Extremely successful procedure. Then to get blindsided by this diagnosis, going to same dr. as he did, and she said in our case it's inherited! No symptoms but over the years, on and off, had fatty liver diagnosis, no dr. EVER said to do anything about it, so kept doing what i'd been doing. She didn't give me a stage, but said I should live a 'normal' life (if one can have that with this type of diagnosis), said there were 3 options - 1 medication (which i can't take because of glaucoma); 2. a band around my esophagus (not comfortable with any type of 'operation' no matter how small, people do make mistakes); 3. diet....so i chose diet which I've been doing since the diagnosis and using natural products (which eliminated my previous 'heart disease'), not advocating anyone do what I did, but there it is. Had l appt. where ultrasound was done which diagnosed it. With hospital shortages in my area, my 2nd follow up ultrasound has been postponed 3x, so not sure if I've been doing has been working....supposed to go next Tuesday, then Thurs. follow up with dr. My issue is calming myself down and trusting the process. Have gone from a XL/L to a M in clothes and eliminated most of my stomach. Doing exercises every night..simple ones, but gets me moving, and driving to furthest end of parking lots to get a walk to the store. Have been praying, and reading...but still there at the back of my mind. Great reading the number of years people have lived with it...you know what i mean. So feedback would be welcomed. Thanks.😂

74 JUST DIAGNOSED WITH NAFLD! TOTALLY SHOCKED
My doctor thought the same thing because we had several pass away from it. So after an ultrasound she said I think you might have cirrhosis but I’m like how I never drank she said she thinks it’s genetic. In my mind I’m like this can’t be so I had a fibroScan done that showed no fibrosis a year later had another ultrasound that came back no fatty liver but some scarring. So I did a blood test called a ELF which looks at the whole liver and the number was negative. I read a study yesterday that said a biopsy only takes a small sample 1/500 so depending on where the sample is can be great news or if that is where you have scarring or cirrhosis your diagnosis is different. With your weight loss and diet and exercise changes your test should could back much better.
Thanks G. Appreciate your time and effort in answering. Have to admit not as well versed as you in the 'technical' aspects. Have next ultra sound in afew days at a different hosp. who will forward results to where originally diagnosed, so 'fingers crossed', 'prayers said', and certainly appreciate getting all the info. on this site and your reply. Stay safe and well in today's world. 😁

" she said in our case it's inherited". Do you have maybe the name of this genetic disease? Would like to share with us if possible?
When she told me i was in such shock at the diagnosis I didn't ask, I see her again this coming week and will ask. I did look it up and it seems there are (can't remember exact #) 5 or 6 inherited ones. But will let you know.
Just looked it up -
Genetic diseases that can cause cirrhosis.
Hemochromatosis Hemochromatosis happens when iron builds up to high levels in your bloodstream because your body can’t process it properly. ...
Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency is a genetic condition that stops your liver cells from properly processing certain proteins. ...
Autoimmune hepatitis ...
Cystic fibrosis ...
Wilson’s disease ...
I see all known to me. Thank you. You wrote NALFD. I think there is also: "Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) can be caused by inherited changes (mutations) in the LDLR, APOB, and PCSK9 genes, which affect how your body regulates and removes cholesterol from your blood."
Good for you. I'm trying the food route too. Lots of vegetables, olive oil, chicken, salmon and shrimp, and no fat, no sugar, no salt.
My understanding is that fat, sugar, salt are the biggest contributors to it. Sugar metabolizes like alcohol in the system....did pharmacology years ago. Thanks for your words and best of luck to you...seems like lots of positive results for most changing food plans. Did read, surprisingly that chicken is really fat and turkey is less fat, have gone vegan myself and husband, works for us.
