Chronic pain in upper R quadrant

Does anyone else get sick & tired of yet another doctor (heptologist for crying out loud) dismiss the pain and discomfort associated with cirrhosis?? I lost count four years ago of so-called experts telling me that the pain cant be that bad because the liver has no pain receptors. Duh!! But when your liver & spleen are nearly twice the normal size, to the point it is compromising lung function... heck no, couldnt possibly hurt!! I am NOT a pain pill seeker, but when there are tears running down my face, extremely high enzyme levels and swollen to the point of it being clearly visible, a little compassion would go a long way. Has anyone else experienced this or is it more typical of the Northern New England area?? I have talked to at least a dozen people who all have various stages of NASH or cirrhosis originating from fatty liver. 10 out of 12 have gone through a similar experience as mine. Physicians refuse to write Rx for any pain medication whether opioid based or not... but there comes a point of downright suffering and sleep deprivation because of the constant pain.

It is a disturbingly common thing to hear the liver has no nerves bit. It is true but the Glisson Capsule that is around it sure does and it rarely likes to be stretched and twisted around. It makes you wonder if those docs every actually took an anatomy class.

Get another doctor. KEEP in mind that it is not good for a liver patient to take any pain pills, including over the counter stuff. I never take anything unless my Dr. Approves. This includes cold, sinus, headache. I have learned to "listen" to my liver. If it bulges out or is painful BE VERY AWARE OF WHAT YOU PUT IN YOUR MOUTH. If you have this problem DO NOT EAT WHAT YOU LAST ATE. REMEMBER.......EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth is processed by the liver.
