My Doctor has stated I will need a second banding procedure on 10 December. She did not explain why this is needed. I am growing suspicious of her silence on this matter. Even when asked why this was needed I got no response.

Second banding procedure
It can be difficult to be sure all of the places needed banding have been managed in one procedure so at times they do go back in, but there would seem to be a lack of dialogue that you are entitled to.
what is banding?
Hi tnmtlady
When the pressure going into the liver gets high because of scarring the veins start to bulge because of that pressure. The ones in the throat are particularly vulnerable. When they get stretched like a balloon they can burst and cause dangerous bleeding. Banding is when they go in and literally put a band around the bulge to prevent them from bursting. It is a dangerous side effect of cirrhosis

Depending on the degree of advancement of portal vein bulges (known as varices), it commonly requires multiple bandings, which cause the bulge to fall off and leave stronger scar tissue in the previous location of the bulge. Also, more varices can develop as the liver becomes more blocked. I had 4 EGD (esophogo-gastro duodenoscopy which involves putting a camera down the throat and stomach to place bands) banding procedures, but eventually needed to bypass the liver / hepatic vein with TIPS procedure due to bleeding and anemia. I wish my doctor had recommended TIPS before I landed in ICU requiring 8 pints of blood!
Thanks for the info.
