I was diagnosed with NASH almost 3 years ago from 15 years of undiagnosed diabetes. I was fairly sure I was gonna die, and most of the time felt as if that were true.
I found Wayne’s posts on The Inspire site, started following his diet and exercise suggestions as closely as possible and became, as my hepatologist puts it, his”healthiest liver patient.”
The problem was; and it was a big one, is that I was sick most of the time. Not just mildly, but debilitating nausea and vomiting practically every moment I was awake.
This went on for two years before it was found I also have gastroparesis from the diabetes. Big problem. I’ve been on reglan for 1+ years but it appears to not be working as well as it once did and there is no replacement available in the US. My dr has prescribed domperidone which I will have to get from Canada. It really doesn’t help that the diet I was used to eating for my liver was reeking havoc for my gastroparesis. They are diametrically opposed - leaving baby food in the middle.
So... here I am, the healthiest cirrhosis patient my hepatologist has, who sleeps most of the time from the beta blockers to control esophageal varices and who feels pretty much like their going to die the remainder of the time.
It IS a LOT better than it was two years ago, I just often find that silence is easier than optimism. The last thing I want to be is a whiner. But, honestly...
My life is devastated, I can’t go anywhere, work, travel .. can’t do anything as I never know if it’s going to go from nausea to crying and drooling. And we haven’t even gotten to the 30 lb weight shifts from ascites, liver and spleen pain - bleh. The good moments can be fantastic, but the bad ones are truly horrific.
