Last month I did Fibroscan in Thailand and the results were like liver stiffness 11.1kpa (advanced liver fibrosis- F3) and fat in liver is 327db/m (S3). Dr. adviced me to reduce carbohydrate consumption and 30 min exercise. Last week I did blood test to check enzymes and results are SGPT-177 and SGOT-161(both are much higher than the last time) even though I am following dr.’s advice. I already lost 4.5 kg in 1month. I’m suffering from mild fever regularly. I am little bit anaemic also (haemoglobin 10.7). My next appointment with dr. is on 22 May. I don’t know what should I do now. My enzymes level made me confused about my health condition. I don’t know it is improving or deteriorating. Any suggestions please!

Hi Mubarrat, your liver is in distress, but you may be suffering from a chronic infection of some kind. There is no way anyone but a doctor can get to the bottom of it but for most people an F3 and S3, while serious, may not produce fever or elevated enzymes. It is fairly common for the gallbladder to harbor chronic infection which can be hard to detect and it is worth asking about parasites as some can reside in the liver and cause damage. If you can, try to get checked out before May. In any case, keep up the diet and exercise. Good Luck to you.

Thank you very much and well appreciated your advice. Could you please tell me the liver condition with F3 and S3 is reversible/recoverable or not?

It isn't really possible for me to tell you anything specific as you need a doctor to understand just what is happening as there can be many causes of liver disease that lead to fibrosis. I can give you some general guidance. If you can stop whatever is currently damaging your liver it will try to recover. For most people, with a proper diet and good habits, the fatty liver can mostly be eliminated with weight loss. The fibrosis is different because it is scarring within the liver. With a good diet some, but not all, of that scarring can be dissolved by the body and a lot of people can see an improvement of about one stage over a period of a couple of years. It is commonly said that the fibrosis can't be reversed and that is true but it can improve with the right lifestyle changes. We have a lot of information on the website, but here is a link to the discussion of a NASH diet which might give you something to think about. If you want to dig into the science it is there also. Good luck, I hope this is of some help.

I don't know about liver stiffness, enzymes etc. I only know fatty liver can be helped by weight loss & healthy diet so my Dr told me. Took me 5 mos. to lose 17lbs. It may never get better at my age, but I must keep it from getting worse with inflammation, scarring & cirrhosis. That's about all I know re: my personal issues with my liver. I had discussions with my primary Dr & a liver specialist. (Digestive disease) I wish you luck & good health!

Hi Mubarrat. I am 27 year old male. I was diagnosed with grade 2 fatty liver yesterday. I am non-alcoholic and not overweight, Non-diabetic. My ALT was 61 and alkaline phosphatase 165. Remaining all were normal. I was scheduled for fibroscan in next week. I hope you are doing good. I just want to know your liver size. Mine was 13.8 CM. Plz tell me if you don't mind. Thank you.
