Researchers are learning more and more about fatty liver as they try to understand why there have been big increases in incidence of this condition around the world.
This study sheds some light on which kinds of foods are converted to extra fat in the liver. And the main culprit....?
Added Sugar, especially fructose (as in corn syrup)
I think we always knew that sugar was the root of all evil.
As a teenager I was the type who was probably thin on the outside and fat on the inside. I could eat whatever I wanted to without gaining weight and would often skip a meal in favour of a few chocolate biscuits . Vegetables were a no go area for me although I would eat fruit. Nowadays my diet it packed with fruit and vegetabkes, no alcohol (never did drink) and I walk for miles; when my lungs allow.
My question is, did my excess sugar intake in my youth cause my fatty liver disease or was it the medications I take for various other conditions, or indeed the conditions themselves?
