Stopping pooing

My daughter is 8 and has done maybe 3/4 rounds of disimpaction. Does anyone else's child, on a maintenance dose just stop pooing again? She's autistic with sensory processing disorder and is in nappies full time

Yeah this is us too. Daughter is almost 5. Has Ehlers Danlos (a connective tissue disorder which messes with all of her muscle tone). Still in nappies. No matter how many times we do disimpaction (which only works with bowel prep and not movicol alone) she’s right back to no poo. Currently laying in bed with hot water bottle in agony after having total blow out last week. It’s like all of the normal rules go out of the window and her body just doesn’t work like everyone else’s.

Also, she’s one of 6 children her 4 older siblings are all diagnosed with autism and I’m sure she is autistic too. Getting her put on the waiting list for assessment. She has huge sensory problems (amongst many other autistic features).

Glad I'm not alone. Not last time, but time before it was 3 weeks off school getting disimpacted, but it ran into the school holidays to. I just wish she would keep pooing lol

It’s really difficult. I know so much about disimpaction etc but she just doesn’t follow the typical patterns other kids seem to. The doctors just brush it off but she’s been so bad with it she’s had 6 months off nursery. On bad days she’s bedridden and on other days overflow is 2-4 times an hour so we’re stuck in the house! Good to know other people are in the same boat and we’re not alone.

At ERIC, for constipation we always advise treating via the least invasive option first which would be using laxatives (These can be discussed with a GP) and also a proactive toileting routine focusing on any toileting anxiety and withholding. For more information see our: eric.org.uk/poo-ladder/

Problem is my daughter won't take the other methods coz of her sensory processing disorder. She only JUST tolerates the movical. I don't understand why she suddenly stops pooing. Why on a maintenance dose does she suddenly stop?
