Help! Wondering why my 3.5 year old suddenly stopped pooping mid- disimpaction!

We were 8 days in on a disimpaction regime. He has been on 8 junior movicol sachets for last 4- 5 days, today we decided to give him 7 sachets instead as he has had watery nappies for 4 days at least.

Thing is he woke up this morning and there was no poo unlike all the other days where he had pooped so much that it leaked through to his mattress - even through mattress protector! We had decided last night to start the slow wean down but this shouldn't have affected him yet as he has all his movicals during the morning... he didn't do any poos (just a smear in his nappy once, but extremely wet nappies with wee all day) until this evening at 5.30pm which was another very large liquid/watery with sloppy/sludgy bits of food - much like the last 4 days... but only one of these big poos!

The previous 4-5 days he has pooping all day long pretty much - at least 5 -6 very large watery poo nappies...

Just wondering why he would suddenly not have any poos all day even though pretty much still on maximum dose of movicol ? We have also been giving him pico sulphate (dulcolax - 4mg) at nights....

Long shot, but could it be that he is now fully cleared out in which case he can actually feel when he needs to poo and is getting back to some normality?

Just wondering where to go next? Should we stay on this 7 sachets for a while to see what happens with these poos over next few days... was planning a very slow wean down anyway... but not sure if we should go back up to 8 tomorrow!

any ideas on what happened today or some reassurance that this can be normal part of disimpaction would be much appreciated!

Hi Tartufo, Only 2 large volume watery stools are required consecutively before reducing down. Following our guide his maintenance dose would start at 4 sachets as he has gotten to 8 sachets. You can find more information on disimpaction here: eric.org.uk/childrens-bowel... Our Podcasts on disimpaction are also useful resources: eric.org.uk/podcast/episode...

Thank you, but any idea why no or minimal poo would be coming out even though still on high doses of Movicol? Could he be able to withhold now that he is cleared?

He will not feel the poo for a very long time following disimpaction, if he has been constipated for a while.
