hi all,

3.5 year old as been on max dose movicol sachets plus stimulant for months and months on a disimpacrion regime, we have increased additional fluids and she usually opens her bowels on the potty.

We cannot reach rusty tea, everyday we get mr whippy type pancake poo in the potty.

Am I doing something wrong or missing something? Dr has referred to general paeds but the waiting list is 12 months

open to any help or advice as I’m struggling

Thanks - have listened to that before but will give it another listen now we seem to be at a sticking point of maximum movicol and stimulant x

You want watery stools with no lumps rather than rusty looking water. Contact the Eric charity they are fantastic

It’s the watery part we just can’t seem to achieve - still quite think, but smooth and comes out when she goes for a wee

Contact the Eric Charity, they will be able to suitably advise.

How many sachets are you actually giving a day? Max dose for maintenance is much less than max dose for disimpaction and not all doctors advise the dosages correctly.

I would call the Eric helpline if you haven't already.

Hi! 8 sachets as she’s 3 and then a stimulant on top of those x

Would you mind sharing what the outcome was please? We are in the same situation with our 4 year old. 4 times trying to disimpact … he’s been on 8 movicol and 20 mls of senna and we’re 2.5 weeks in…

I took the decision to start lowering the dose as we never reached rusty tea. So far so good and whole family a lot happier. Currently on 2 movicol rather than 8!

I’m in the middle of a disimpaction with my son…,did you reduce down slowly? Eric say to reduce down by half the max disimpaction dose and then reduce down 1 sachet per day to a maintenance dose. I keep reading on here very slowly reducing is key so I’m completely confused what to do!

I reduced one sachet every 2 days with the aim of having a sausage type poo rather than diarrhea poo x

Thanks….was reducing slowly down from the max disimpaction dose or the max maintenance dose? X

Sorry from the max disimpaction does of 8, which we were on for a long long time and never reached rusty tea

The starting dose is determined by the stage you reach in disimpaction. Our guide can help with this: eric.org.uk/childrens-bowel... Dosages for maintenance dose should then be reduced after a week on the higher dose. This should be done gradually leaving a few days/1 week between each lowering of dose. You can drop 1 sachet or half a sachet if required. If dropping by half a sachet ensure you mix first and then split the liquid so that the laxatives are combined with enough water to work effectively.
