cannot poop without laxatives!

hi, after years of constipation, hospital visits we are now at the stage where my child cannot poo without the aid of a laxative. She’s now 10 years old (been chronically constipated since 6 months old) she currently takes Dolcolax in tablet form as her compliance with drinking the medication is a no go! She is under a Gastroenterologist who has basically told us to figure it out ourselves. I’m a little confused so my question would be is anyone else’s child now reliant on them? How can you tell if your child is impacted as she doesn’t soil herself anymore she just has a huge distended tummy and literally doesn’t poo! Can a child be impacted and not soil, I always used the soiling as an indication she was blocking up?

extremely confused!!

Is her issue from a major food intolerance? Do an Igg blood test for delayed reactions to certain foods. My son developed motor tics aged 6y. He was tested for food intolerances via pin prick dried blood test, stool test and urine tests. He scored high for mould, high igg for wheat, dairy, eggs etc and had leaky gut. He didnt hv constipation but he did have slow bowels. With supplements and probiotics and dietary changes his bowels cleared up, tics disappeared and his mood was better. Look for a good naturopath functinal doctor

Aww I really do feel for you and your daughter and completely understand. My son is 7 and a half and is exactly the same! I'm also very appalled by so called professional help. There is so little ACTUAL support.

I've just started to manage getting movical down in the last few months via vanilla milkshake. Senna in tablets have to be broken down into a soft chocolate and he will take lactulouse orally.

He is a selective eater and really need help with this.

We have started to manage it better by continuous medicine but still very hard. 3 weeks since last poo!!

hi, thanks for your reply! As I said in my post she’s incredibly difficult, getting her to comply with the medication has always been a battle! I’m 100% sure she’s loaded with poo as she is constantly getting water infections! Our consultant thinks the only way forward is to use a colostomy bag?! In my opinion this is a little drastic especially for a child that has behavioural issues that more that likely have stemmed from the invasive treatments over the years with her bowels.
