Problems with teachers refusing toilet breaks

In schools, toilet breaks are becoming increasingly scarce. You cannot just go to the toilet in a lesson, unless you are lucky enough to have a teacher with common sense and decency. It really makes me angry that students are clearly desperate but the teacher refuses the request. I have actually seen some students just walk out the class anyway. I strongly believe that refusing access is a safeguarding issue and a violation of human rights, and not to mention poor practise. I agree that sometimes people waste time and abuse toilet rules, but a good teacher surely would know who was genuine or not?

My friend , actually wet himself at school because the teacher refused him access. This caused him a lot of embarrassment and bullying as a result. The teacher actually told him off too, to make matters worse! A complaint was made, but the teacher and even the head teacher just called it an “ unfortunate isolated incident” nothing was learned from it, and risks the same thing happening again.

When will schools realise that these policies are wrong?

As well as the policy of restricted access I think one of the issues is when they build schools. My children's school (200+ pupils ) only has one cubical for all 4 ks2 boys classes thats about 1 for 60-80 boys. My son very much needs to go when he needs to go but won't use if it is dirty and doesn't like to ask either

There should be one toilet per twenty students.
