How many movicol???

My 6 year old daughter has been on one Movicol a day. I think i need to up her dosage as im not seeing a full disempaction.

She does have poos daily but they are very smelly, sticky and slimy. I struggle to flush them.

I am concerned that she will have accidents at school and so am tending to do the movicol after school.

How many would you suggest I give her?

Its so stressful isnt it!

You need to work upto the maximum dose for their age until you reach watery stools with no lumps consistently for three days before you start reducing the doses down extremely slowly ie one sachet every three days until you reach a suitable maintenance dose to remain on. The maximum dose for their age is 12 sachets per day.

Thank you. My main concern is her having issues at school so we have decided to try and follow the plan to the letter that is given on the paperwork in the movicol box.

Hopefully we can break the back of it that way without her having to wprry about embarrasing herself in school.

Thanks!

Unfortunately that wont work and you really need to do it slowly. I would get a health care plan in place for school so that she has access to a toilet, can be taken after every meal, has a spare change of clothes and is assisted if required in changing. You can find a template for this on the Eric Website. The smelly sticky poos are definitely a sign she is impacted and you really need to get it right, otherwise you will very quickly end up back to square one again.

If it helps, I would love if my 6yr old boy had a daily poo!! He has to have Senna (Laxative) as he will not have movical at all (he's s a very selective eater which I'm sure is the main reason for his chronic constipation!). I agree, it is very stressful as he may not have a poo for over a week or more and then we have 3 days of pain (where he can be quite ill) and many showers to deal with the consequences. He often wears pull- ups outside of school so we can actually go out and do things. I'm honestly so disappointed by the paediatric support and help which I find is all so siloed! Reactive rather than 'Why?' and actually supporting that!Sorry just having a moan about the health support! Wishing you much understanding and hope things get better on your journey with your little girl. x

Could you use the Easter holidays to attempt a full disimpaction? Start upping her sachets towards the end of the term and then just go for it! My daughter didn’t tend to feel the poo until about 6 sachets onwards so it would give you an extra few days.

I know it’s a rubbish way to spend the holidays but it won’t go away with out a complete clean out.

Have you tried prunes or figs and lots of fluids to go with the right amount of movical a day.
