My 13 year old child is soiling all the time - ERIC
My 13 year old child is soiling all the time
Put him in pampers size 8 if he is slim enough or drynites or a nappy from molicare called Molicare slip maxi pe backed which keep in the smells very well!
Sounds like he needs a full disimpaction. This can take a month plus at that age. I would contact the Eric helpline for advice and watch the Poo Nurses video about disimpaction online.
I’ve got a 13 year old with the same problems. He does a toilet sit before school which does pretty much prevent accidents at school, but he still has daily accidents at home - wetting and soiling and often multiple times a day.
We are currently doing a disimpaction with senna and sodium docusate (as he hates movicol, laxido etc) and it’s been difficult but after a week we think we are seeing signs of his gut being emptier.
We’ve found the movicol mummies Facebook group helpful as well as the poo nurses video someone else has mentioned.
He soils at school all the time
That must be really tough for him. I hope school are supportive.
Does he wear nappies for it
No, but for a while he did have a bag of spare clothes in matron's office just in case.
Do you think my son needs nappies has he has soiled twice today
You can buy pads, which would be more discreet than nappies if you are thinking of going down that route. We’ve never used them though, so I can’t advise further - sorry.
Might be worth starting a new post on here to see what others advise if this is something you want help with. I understand a range of brands are available and expect some would be more suited to deal with soiling than others...
You could try something like drynites or the incontinence pants from aldis, they would contai any soiling but he could still use the toilet normally, rather than being stuck in a nappy.
He soiled once yesterday but no improvement because he has soiled three times today. We haven't decided yet if we will get the pads or nappies
How long has he had issues with soiling? Is he cleaning up after himself? If he is, putting him in nappies is probably a step in the wrong direction.
Unless he's having wetting issues aswell.
He has soiled since he was 4 and a half sometimes he cleans up but I have to remember him all the time as he will sit in it all day and all night and yes he wets himself all the time aswell
Also he wets the bed Should he wear nappies at night
Yes, definitely, I have no idea how you have coped with changing clothes and bedding for 9 years.I will send you a link to what I buy for my 11 year old granddaughter.
I will reply to your questions on this page
Yes, please answer them, I'm dyeing to know.
When he started soiling at 4.5 years old that's when he went to school he didn't come out of nappies until 6 years old
He has soiled 4 times in his pants today so far
No messages is not working
He was taking out of nappies at 6 years old because he stopped soiling and then he started soiling at 8 for 2 months and that was OK and then at 11 for 1 year and again at 13
He was in nappies till 10 at night time and then he stopped and then he started again at 13 and it is once a week usually he wets the bed
Hi how are you doing?
Have you seen much improvement in your son, have you tried anything new with him?
When did you last disimpact, did he reach full disimpaction i.e. rusty water looking poo? How quickly did you reduce the doses down until you found a suitable maintenance dose. What is he currently taking to help him go? Do you encourage regular toilet sits. have you been referred to the continence team? Sorry for all the questions, but there is so much you can do to help.
Hi we started last disimacting him when you messaged and that's us just finished yesterday he had 14 sachets for 2 days and still was soiling and not going to the toilet so it was put up to 16 and then he went and then down to 8, and then to 4 and back to his normal 2 sachets as you will see he takes two sachets a day. He has soiled his pants 1 time all ready today.Would you recommend that he wears nappies or pull ups
It doesnt sound like you have disimpacted properly or completely. You need to stay on the maximum dose until you reach rusty water looking poo, then stay there for 3 consecutive days before you start reducing the doses down very slowly i.e. one sachet every three days until you reach a suitable maintenance dose that produces type 4 stools on the Bristol Stool Chart.
Sorry if I'm being a pest and checking in all the time, but I really hope you're getting somewhere close to sorting out his soiling issues.Having a teenager who wees the bed is one thing but it must be traumatic for him pooing his pants.
I really hope you can get some real help for him it must be so difficult having to deal with.
Wish all the best for the two of you Xx.
Still soiling
Is he managing it independently?
Cleaning up, getting changed into clean undies, washing his soiled ones, etc?
How has he been getting in at school, is he doing ok academically?
Sometimes he independently will clean up sometimes I have to keep nagging him To clean up. One time I had to carry him to the toilet and change him like a baby as he wouldn't go and change. He does wash the soiled pants on an occasional basis but only when I notice he has done it sometimes he will just sneak them into the washing basket full of poo. Yesterday was a good day as he kept his self clean all day
Hey, if he still soils and wets himself I’d recommend getting him pull ups during the day and if they don’t work, might be best he wears nappies and see if his school will get someone to keep checking him for accidents and changing him when he’s had a accidentHope this helps
Hi he is in nappies now
Hi, how are you both doing? Have you seen any improvement in your son?
Hopefully he is doing better now!
