Can you get impacted again even when on a movicol maintenance dose?

My daughter has been suffering from constipation for a year. In May we went through our third disimpaction routine. As part of it we kept her on a very high dose of movicol as well as Senna for a month. Then slowly slowly we brought it down to 4 sachets daily. In the last week or so, she’s been unable to poo again. We’re currently doing the disimpaction routine again but I guess my question is, what’s changed? Why can’t she poo again, even with keeping movicol going daily? Movicol should keep it soft so why has it all stopped? She’s in so much pain and has started wetting again or unable to wee. How can I make sure this doesn’t happen again? Thank you xx

Are you encouraging regular toilet sitting?how much water does she drink during the day? did you get to rusty water looking poo and stay there for a few days before you started reducing the dose down very very slowly when you originally disimpacted?

Hello, thank you for replying. She actually stayed on 12 sachets a day for almost three weeks and only reduced down to 4 sachets about 8 weeks after disimpaction. She drinks lots and was pooing every day up until last week when it all of a sudden stopped. Her poo has been soft since disimpaction and she’s had 4 movicol a day ever since. X

We had stopped it actually but have started it again with the disimpaction. Do you think not having Senna was the issue?

I would keep on with the senna.
