Can anyone offer any advice for altering the time of the natural urge to poo? After years of various issues LB now pooing daily but also daily soiling just because holding it in until they get home from school. If the urge came in the evening I think we’d have cracked it.

Hi, you could try the following,

around 30 minutes after dinner, get your LB to sit on the toilet for around 10 to 15 minutes.

Anything to distract in that time a good idea, such as reading a book, playing on a tablet, if LB needs company and a chat, do it, but keep it light and off the subject

in the latter part of the session, and if there is any sign of poo, some small pushing is okay, but not huge efforts.

Also keep the tone light, some tummies can just readily, some take their time, some don't at all.

This can take several days or weeks to accomplish and it does not work guaranteed with all kids, however, as a football coach I have had several older lads with holding issues due to school time, who have taken the advice on board and now have fixed times.

If it does not work in the evening, you can copy and paste the above to after breakfast.

At the end of the day, LB should however be encouraged not to ignore the need, especially in the transition and go to the toilet at school, even though they may not be to appealing

Perhaps some support from the school can be arranged, such as allowing LB to use a staff toilet?

Good luck and keep us updated

Could you not persuade him to poo in the school toilets? Tell him it's cool to poo at school!

Speak to his teacher to make sure that he will always be given permission to go to the toilet when he asks, and also that make her aware that he may be gone longer than usual if he needs to do a poo.
