My 3 year old seems to have immature bowels. He is half toilet trained.

My son seems to be not physically aware that he need to poop and even when it is happening. I have been toilet training him for 8 months. He can pee in the toilet no problems but not poop. He shows now signs that he needs to poop or even that he is having one. He also doesn't seem to notice if he has pooped his pants. Doesnt go the same time every day. The health visitor just keeps saying boys are always harder to train and that he probably has immature bowel and it will get better. But after 8 months I cant take any more of cleaning up poop messes everyday. There seems to be lots of help for them refusing to go to the toilet or constipation but nothing for his body not being aware. Has anybody had to deal with this? His nursery dont want him in nappies anymore as he is 3 and a half now and it is "better for him" not to have the barrier of a nappy

I would encourage regular toilet sitting, take him after every meal and have him sit there for no more than 10 minutes at a time. if he is struggling put him back into pull ups for poos but only when he is having his toilet time. This is so common in children, they get the wees but poos appear to be a different ball game.

I think you really need to speak with a doctor and not a health visitor, you should ask them to send your child to a specialist paediatric who will be able to help you find out if he has immature bowel.
