My 4 year old has just started to have poo accidents again. During lock down we have managed to get our son using the toilet for everything but all of a sudden he is having poo accidents. He isn't on medication and has regular movements. We have tried going back to basics and getting him on the toilet regularly but it doesn't seem to be working. He has just stopped wearing nappies at night (his request) and I'm starting to wonder if this is a symptom of this? He has a communication delay so wont tell us reasons - he starts school in September so any help is greatly recieved!

Sudden step backwards - poo accidents!
What do his stools look like? Are they dark and sticky and smelly?
No advice but I wouldn't worry too much about school. I've had a conversation with our school about things and they've said it's very common and they're used to dealing with it. So hopefully if you talk to them they'll put your mind at rest.
Unfortunately not every school is like that though. Hopefully things resolved for that boy pre-September, or the school stepped up to deal with accidents. My son's (a large primary) said that all children had the occasional accident but that they'd never had a child like him before (near daily accidents). They resorted to calling me in to help, albeit partly as he often resisted cleaning/being cleaned up. One week they called me into school every day - when they shouldn't have been doing that at all. Eventually we agreed that they would only call me in if he had a 2nd accident in a day....but I hope anyone reading this remembers that school have a responsibility to deal with continence issues - lack of continence should be supported and parents should not be expected to go into school at all.
