Massive setback

Since all the up upheaval of lockdown the progress my now 5 year old had made with her toileting has been lost. She is in pullups during the day as she didnt know when she needed a poo and tape nappies at night as she is no where near ready to be nappy free. She has been checked for constipation multiple times but it seems she is unable to grasp when she is soiling. The pullups were more to stop the stress of when she had accidents as she found this really distressing. Since lockdown she has regressed to the point where she is not interested in using the toilet at all and is basically using her pullups 24/7. She is a very emotional girl and doesn't like change, on advise from the Dr we have not pushed to get her back on the toilet but I'm at breaking point of changing pullups not to mention the leaks and cost the Dr did advise to return to nappies fulltime for a bit I see this as a step backwards bit at times it seems like a logical solution. any advise appreciated. Also I know not related bit any advice in removing night dummy would also be greatly received.

Going back to nappies for a while could be just what she needs, I put my granddaughter back in nappies at the start of lockdown because she wanted them, no school and no weekend activities really affected her badly and she was having accidents her pullups couldn't handle.

It was her choice to wear her normal night nappies all the time, then I let her pick some online for her to wear for the rest of lockdown.

After about 4 weeks she decided she didnt want them anymore and wanted to go back to using the toilet during the day and pullups just in case, she's now having 1 or 2 little accidents a week, compared to 3 or 4 soaked pullups every day before her spell in nappies.

The dummies I have no idea, I had to take sophie to a+e because her thumbnail came detached from her sucking it 12 hrs a night and the odd times in the day, after they bandaged it up she struggled to sleep, and after the dressings came off I was supposed to be putting medicated varnish on, but she would pick it off because of the taste.

I gave in and whent searching for dummies online, I found a nice company in Yorkshire that do larger dummies for adults, Sophie loves hers, I let her pick what colours she wanted, she gets them every night now and if we are going out to a supermarket or somewhere noisy or busy, they have made a big difference in her ability to cope with environments that used to make her anxious.

Thanks for replying, out of interest what nappies do you use for her as we are using Pampers but they are getting a bit snug, also what's the name of the company you got her dummies from, I didn't know they even made bigger one.

I was using size small tena slip adult nappies, in the maxi absorbency, not because she needed it but because she wanted them to have pink stripes.

I'm now switching to Tesco health junior plus nappies, there just like the tenas but I can buy them with my normal shopping and there half the price.

I bought her the dummies through eBay, but I can't find them just now, I'll message you a link when I do.

This lockdown has set a lot of our kids back - I’ve done two disimpactions since March and it just feels never ending doesn’t.

I have no brilliant advice other than that you aren’t alone and this situation has been massively stressful on little ones I think.

Yes it certainly has been strange, hopefully we will resume some normality soon and make some progress. Good luck,

Mine started back at nursery and so far only one small accident (when she got home). So I can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck to you too!
