Is your child on 29mg senna too?

Hi, our lb is 6 and it's been along road of constipation and disimpactions for us. His paedeatrician has upped his senna to 20mg as his still has no sensation. We're reducing the cosmacol (macrogol) to balance this but he's soiling multiple times a day. He couldn't go to school even if they were open. Anyone out there suffered the same with an increase in senna? And does it settle down? We're getting fed up of poo!! Thanks friends xx

Have you actually disimpacted him?

Yes, we're pretty sure he's clear. No dry bits at all. We spoke to the paediatric nurse and she said cut down on cosmacol. He's gone down to 2 a day for the last few days and hasn't produced a proper poo for a couple of days. It's like he just can't push out. Have you got a child on high dose of senna too?

Did you get to rusty water looking poo before you started reducing the dose very slowly ie 12,1212,11,11,11,10,10,10?

I’m concerned you may be getting duff advice from the health professionals. But if you contact Eric you can discuss it with someone more qualified than me!

High Senna and low movicol could be quite uncomfortable. My son is on high everything across the board. If it were me I would gradually increase the movicol until you find the right maintenance dose.

It’s such a personal thing the maintenance dose.

And I agree with the other reply re disimpaction. It wouldn’t hurt to do another full disimpaction.

Thanks both for the helpful comments. We're going to let things settle for another week then contact the nurse again about lowering senna and increasing cosmacol if the soiling and tummy aches are still bad. I will certainly look for signs that he's impacted and disimpact again if necessary. Thanks ladies xxx
