HELP!! First time posting after being referred to site from my GP. My little boy, who is nearly 4 is totally toilet trained doing pee’s but when comes to pooing he will on do it in a pull up, he has previously passed some enormous size stools, he has been on laxido since around 18 months and feel like it’s not helping he now has a fear of it being sore and holding it in I think. Have tried everything eg.. sticker charts rewards etc.. I’m not sure what else I can do.

Looking For Advice/help!!
Hi,
Unfortunately no advice but we’re in exactly the same situation with my DD who’ll be 5 in January. Can’t get her out of pull ups at all despite her using the toilet on/off for wees. She’ll only stand with legs crossed to poo. It’s such a mountain to climb.😔 It’s so hard to know how to encourage them without making the fear/resistance worse.
I hope someone’s got a tip that makes a difference for you. X
I haven’t tried it myself but I’m sure I read somewhere about people cutting a hole in the nappy and getting their children to sit on the toilet with the nappy on and gradually transitioning to taking it off totally.
I think it’s supposed to deal with their fear of doing it in the toilet.
Also I had a book about withholding that had a story you read to your child about saying goodbye to the Poo in the toilet (from memory) - it was called ‘constipation, withholding and your child’
It definitely helped me understand a lot more about the links between withholding and constipation a lot more
Good luck
It sounds like he needs a disimpaction, see poo nurses video link on this page. Then the medication can be reduced so that they can't hold it in and gradually sensation returns. However it's hard to get the dosage right. We've been goin for nearly seven years but our daughter has severe dyspraxia which effects sensation and tone.
