Help for a 7 year old
Hello, poor you, I know it’s not easy. We have struggled with our 9 year old daughter forever. You could try liquid Senokot, we were told to start with 5mls and we can go up to 20mls if necessary. Our daughter has used this since she was 5. Movicol is important to keep the stool soft and to melt away a block but senna will push it all out and works quickly. He will be a lot cleaner on senna. You can use movicol and senna together and find a dose that suits him. You can buy a bottle of senokot without prescription but if you are worried ask the doctor to give him a prescription. As hard as it is try not to get angry with him. Make sure he sits on the toilet after dinner (even if he says he doesn’t need to go), my daughter does this every night with the iPad and it really works. Good luck! You are not alone x
Thanks for your advice might go to see the gp as nothing seems to work at the minute and he’s got terrible tummy pains it’s more frustration as I can’t help him we always get him to go on the toilet at regular intervals dr just basically has fobbed us off with movicol and referred him
Mess ally says it all really. Our daughter is nine, has had this for six years with all the same issues. Have a consultant appointment today because of all the UTIs. Would only suggest you watch the pooh nurses video if you haven't already. She also uses a thin sanitary pad to make it easier to clean up. Good luck x
Sorry Jessally
Mind you it is mess ally isn't it ha ha !!xx
Maybe revisit gp to see if your son is really backed up, by feeling his tummy. If so they should advise you about clearout regimes and possibility of stretched bowel which can be fixed in time with movicol. They should be able to offer that advice without you waiting for the referall appointment. It is not a quick problem to fix, keep reading on this forum to know you are not alone with this problem.
We were told at our last appointment that if he’s soiling he needs senna and if the poo is hard he needs more movicol - my son takes both at the moment and I found that really helpful when trying to work out which medication I need to change when he starts to soil.
Good luck
After almost a year we finally have limited accidents/leaks , 5 movicol a day and a senna at night , its not perfect yet but getting there. What ive noticed is changing the dose of movicol takes time to work so if you up it keep it there for a week or more and see what happens .
My son is coming 14 and suffered since around 7 years if not earlier on and off. Endless appointments and not much results until recently . Finding this site has helped understand how it works and reassure us that he is not alone.
good luck x
Been to doc and they have increased movicol due to a back log of poo so will see how that goes and she actually took the time to listen to me and my son which was reassuring fingers crossed
