My son who is 9 years old has been bedwetting for about 4 years now, so much wee at night that it soaked through the entire mattress! A odd time he will be dry for a night or 2, I’ve tried no drinks after certain time, wee before bed, alarm and worry monster (incase somethings bothering him) but nothing. He’s a very shy, reserved child and finds it hard to express feelings, he’s also behind in learning, very easily distracted, alway moving even when sitting down he can’t seem to sit still. Anyone else experienced this and could he have adhd which is causing a the bedwetting? Just want some opinions before his doctors appointment to help how to explain this to doctor

Help!! Bedwetting
Presuming he has an average bladder capacity for his age (around 270 mls), drinks around 1,500 mls per day with the last drink an hour before bed etc. There are 2 main reasons why children wet the bed - they make too much wee while they are asleep (nocturnal poyuria) due to lack of the chemical messenger (vasopressin) and/or their bladder is unable to hold on to the urine either because it is too small or doesn't relax enough. during sleep (is overactive'). Also all children who wet the bed have some degree of an inability to wake to bladder signals telling them to go to the toilet. So in order to successfully treat the bedwetting it is helpful to try and identify the main cause of the bedwetting and target that. So if you have tried the alarm it may be that your son has a problem with making too much wee at night. The medication (desmopressin) replicates the vasopressin and 'tops up' what should naturally be there. Below is a link to a leaflet about it. I hope that helps. bbuk.org.uk/wp-content/uplo...
