So my son....in the past 18 months.... 7 movicol disimpactions, 12 hospital enemas, 6 rounds of klean prep, countless hospital admissions, bloated and unable to pass wind, constant pain and soiling, incontinent of faeces, school attendance hitting 33 %... behaviour very violent, emotionally so disturbed actually suicidal for a while.....now after the intervention of a wonderful paediatric surgeon.... NO SOILING, FLAT TUMMY, HAPPY RELAXED BOY, ATTENDING SCHOOL, as he said to me a few days ago β€œMum I’m not angry any more”

He’s using trans anal irrigation (balloon system) every day at home and having bowel washouts in hospital if needed on top although I’m hoping they’re going to train us to do them at home if needed. Turns out despite x Rays being repetitively clear he was totally loaded with soft poo. Only found out when he had his op. Pls msg me if you’re at your wits end or google Peristeen/ qufora and get in front of a surgeon to discuss, good luck!

Hi Robinia, I’m so glad to read your news!

After 3 years of dealing with this chronic refractory constipation with mild results, we’ve finally seen a paediatric surgeon who prescribed Peristeen. We’re currently on 1.5 Movicol sachets and 2 tablets of Sennokot daily, and Microlax enemas every 2nd or 3rd day. Still, dealing with lots of smears in undies. We’ve done many disimpactions over the past 3 years. My boy is now 7.

Here’s hoping Peristeen will help us too.

We had great success and then went backwards, now it’s a bit better but still a work in progress! But so much better than before we had irrigation. It’s enabled me to reduce his movicol which has massively reduced his trapped wind and associated anger and violence which is a massive relief. My son takes bisocodyl now instead of Senna. Really glad it’s improving things for you as well x
