Withholding poos

Hello. I'm new here. I've a 35mth boy who since 2wks b4 Xmas did a poo and it hurt him getting it out and now 6mths on he's stopped releasing his poos altogether. I think he's associating pain with pooing and refuses. He's always anxious, runs off to another room sits on his butt and stops himself pooing. We get a bit of poo between his butt which is very thick and takes a few wipes to clean up. He does this several times a day. I can't potty train as he refuses to use. Wont go without any clothes either. We've had movicol but his bowels overflowed all the time and he was very down, changing up to 25 times a day. Had Lactulose and I've bought syrup of figs and senekot all of which he fights like anything to release a poo. Starts nursery next term, I'm at my wits end on getting him to poo. He barely talks so can't get anything out of him and won't listen to us about his pooing. He's just not having any of it and runs off screaming trying to get away from us. I just don't know what to do and not sure if the GP could help. And don't know what the nursery will make of it when they experience his habits. Help x

Also he would quite happily sit in his poo all day long if id let him. He never comes to us to indicate he needs his nappy changing.

Would he need a colon irrigation doing. As he would need putting asleep as he hates anyone invading his personal space and will scream the place down!

Hi sorry to hear about your little boy. I’d ring the ERIC helpline and come up with a plan re moving forward. Not sure if you’ve looked at the ERIC website but we have found it invaluable with our 3 year old who’s had to go through disimpaction following withholding. She is under consultant care and continues with movicol and Dulcolax which is a stimulant laxative. She takes the later every night and it’s that one that’s particularly important as when the dosage is correct it prevents a child from being able to withhold - they simply have to poo. Good luck :)
