Just wanted to say that my son had his appointment today with gastroenterologist and a lovely surgeon and it went really well!! He’s going to go in for a whole day of tests and a clear out and then try an anal irrigation system. The surgeon said finding out which system will work for him and getting it to work will need some tweaking but I’m fine with that. It’s such a relief to sit and be listened to without judgement and feel that someone actually wants to understand your child’s symptoms. So to anyone out there banging your head against a brick wall, don’t give up! Keep pushing to get in front of the right doctor! It’s taken us a very long time to get here but finally I am con that my son will get some relief eventually. Big love 🤗

That’s amazing news, and gives hope to others that with perseverance we can get the help that is needed for our children. Xx

Amazing news xxx
That is brillant news for you both. You have given us hope. Let us know how you get on
Great to hear your finally getting somewhere and he's going to get the help he needs. It's so difficult when you know it's the medical professional that can help but you can be waiting nearly a year to get to see a specialist. By which time you have a child who's suicidal and transformed from the most happiest smiley person to some one who is depressed and fed up.
Please keep us updated and any advice of what you discussed with the dr and how you decided on the next step.
Don't want to wait this long and get sent home with there's nothing more to do and see how we go and we'll see you in clinic in 4 months.
Hope you find a solution for your son and you can have some sort of normality in your lives again xx
Thank you. I think it’s really important we all share information on here as the standard of care varies so dramatically. We were under a rubbish gastroenterologist for a year which just delayed everything, I went rogue and emailed a consultant at a different hospital who emailed back to say they would see us with a GP referral! My son has had an absolute nightmare and such a relief to finally hear a doctor (a surgeon) say sometimes the medication stops working for children at his age. We relied on movicol for 7 years and finally it didn’t work any more. I don’t want to put anyone off it as I know it’s a really important part of prevention, but I do want everyone on here to know some consultants are more helpful than others! I will post when I know what tests he’s having and to say how he gets on with the anal irrigation. Knowledge is power 😁
