Constant wetting

Please help 🤦🏻‍♀️

My very nearly 5yo still regularly wets himself. Had him checked at gp a while back, all is fine with his willy etc, they were no help at all. Not an infection as this has been going on for over a year. He holds it until the last minute and then wets. I have spoken to school and they regularly ask him and he has a buddy to go with etc. But he says no most times they ask him and they can't force him. At home I can tell when he needs to and he will go if told. I just don't know what to do. Today he wet himself during the Christmas performance on stage in front of they whole of the early years (3 form plus nursery). He was upset for 5 minutes and then over it. I am at a loss. I can't be there at school, nor can they make him go. We have spoken about it and he says he will try harder etc but it doesn't make a difference. He wets himself most nights and although I try not to let him have a drink, he always wants a sip in bed.

We've tried various actions - not reacting, just helping him get changed. Rewards. Staying positive and then even time out and taking toys.
