Son at school and not toilet trained

Hi. My son is 4yo and at school. He is not toilet trained. I tried many times over the past two years to train him to no avail. he refuses to sit or stand at the potty or toilet. He does get constipated too. I currently send him to school in pull ups and send in some and they change him once per day. I personally feel once a day isn't enough and that he needs help and support to encourage him to use the toilet . I don't know where the fear or avoidance comes from as he has three older siblings who were relatively easy to toilet train. Is there anything that school can do to help or the Dr ? Many thanks

My 3yo was refusing to be trained and I sought help from the health visitor, and I’m wondering if you could do the same. It turned out that he was more willing to give it a try with other people (not me). He’s now trained on the wee front but he’s been more reluctant to poo in the toilet. Seeing other kids going to the loo may spur your child on. It’s still early days in the school year and they’re all trying to find their feet.

I agree with you that one nappy change is not enough, though I do appreciate this could have to do with the school. being understaffed, or under pressure. The fact that he’s getting constipated is also a worry, as it can have long-term effects. I would speak to the school, health visitor and GP if the stool situation gets any worse.

Good luck!! It’s so hard to deal with this stuff...
