Hi all, just joined so I’m sorry if this has been answered. I’m having difficulty with my son soiling at school and having to leave work to go in and clean him up. I work as a nurse in the NHS and work an hour away from school... just don’t know how to manage thus, is there any policy around what school should be expected to do? I’m going to have to take a career break at this rate ......we are under the GP and trying to work on sorting the general issue but as we all know this could take months..... thank you all for listening x

Soiling - needing to clean up LO at school....
Hi there. For the last few years schools legally have something known as a duty of care. They have to sort this issue out for your son by setting up a healthcare plan and dealing with his soiling ,when it happens, themselves. Do not be put off by them, be politely insistent and if necessary contact the local authority. Do not give up your job!! Good luck
School have to sort them out it’s a medical problem. Ring ERIC and get some info to take in. My daughter has a bag at school with wipes and clean clothes and if she has a problem then teaching assistant changes her.
My son has been soiling at school since he started (he’s now 11 and in high school) once it was so bad 2 members of staff had to help shower him! But school have dealt with it themselves. Occasionally I get called in for spare clothes but that’s it. School have been pretty good with welfare ladies helping to gauge his wellbeing when he goes in with a ‘tummy ache’ and liaising with me where necessary. From day 1 at high school they called me in to write up a care plan.
I ditto all this. You need to make an appointment and speak to the SENCO at school and request to have a care plan drawn up. Eric have a great care plan template, I'm on the mailing list and was randomly sent it last week so it must be on the website somewhere, or if you ok me your email address I can send it to you....
