Hi everyone,

I’m new to this, my son is 7 and has autism, he is on day 6 now and finding it very hard to control! He is loosing lots of watery stools but I haven’t seen any lumps, he still uses nappies for a poo! He is constantly crossing his legs and holding himself tense so I’m assuming he’s doing this as he is still impacted??? (Due to him having autism he doesn’t really understand what’s going on and just gets stressed if I try to tell him to uncross his legs and relax) He’s now on 12 movicol a day as well as 5ml of Senna, I’m not sure if I should reduce it now or keep him on the maximin dose of 12 a day as I’ve read that I should keep him going until he no longer leeks yet also I’ve read that once it’s watery you can start to reduce? Please help x

I wouldn't worry about it too much. YOu can always do another disimpaction protocol in a few months if you feel it is necessary. Also, have you tried massaging his tummy/feet? this can really help with sluggish peristalsis.

Hi thanks for reply, we went back to the hospital last night and they gave him an X-ray and said they couldn’t see any poo but found his bowel to be overstretched and something not quite right with the gasses in his tummy so want to investigate further, we are due to go back today for blood tests but I’m not sure what other investigating they are going to do!

It doesn't sound like he's still impacted. A nurse or GP could feel his tummy and tell you. I would go to a maintenance dose now, 3/4 sachets maybe plus some senokot. Good luck

Oh good at least they're now on the case. We are undergoing investigations at the moment too. We have scans next week. They did mention that they might inject some Botox into her bowel to tighten the muscles. Thanks for letting me know and good luck xx

They have now decided to leave him until Friday until our peditrician is back on duty! Just spoken to Eric helpline who have advised us to reduce the movicol to 4 for 5 days and then 3 for a few days then 2 and so on! So hoping this leakage can come to an end soon as we go to Disneyland in two weeks!!

Good luck with your daughter too x

Hi ya. How long have you been on 12 sachets? We did a discompaction programme and reached 12 sachets of movicol my son was on this for 7 days and was not getting to a watery stage. We had to then speak to his paeditrian to seek advice, perhaps it is worth giving them a ring or your gp. They kept us on it until they gave him senna and sodium picolate for 5 days which seemed to get things moving and now we are on just mocicol. As a guide they say if it is 12 sachets to get them watery then the dose is half of this ie 6 sachets. Another odd question does your child get any sensation of going to the Toilet? Our son didn't before his recent diacompaction. But I see him crossing his legs and trying to hold it in and after chatting with him i think it is because he doesnt inderstand that feeling means going to the toilet. So we have literally had to take him to the toilet to sit. Hope this helps
