Movicol problems??

My son who is 7 1/2yrs has never had a dry night, we were put on Movicol in September to see if it’s due to constipation.

In January we were told to increase the dosage to 4 sachets a day. After a few weeks he was sick, shivering and we put it down to a bug.

We were told to wait a few days and start again. We were then moved up to 6 sachets a day in February and after a few weeks the same again.

Has anyone else had anything like this? Not sure if it’s just more bugs from school or whether it’s down to the Movicol (not that it’s made any difference). 😔

I am not a Dr but the number of sachets you are giving your son sounds a lot to me.

Sorry for this question...Does your son ‘poo’ every day and have you checked it is a ‘healthy’ quantity?

My son said (truthfully) that he was having a bowel movement everyday to the Dr. But when I asked to ‘see-it’. It was half a dozen ‘rabbit’ poos. (Sorry for the graphic description).

We then followed the impaction regime on Eric website (Movicol). He did a huge amount of poo. We went up to the 12 sachets for nearly a week. See;

We are now on a maintenance dose. One sachet a day (I increase it if he doesn’t go each day).

We do however, have problems with with pains and nausea and this hasn’t been sorted out - Which is frustrating.

This is what the paediatrician has set us. When we have a break he then has the rabbit poo, but only very few. He only poos every other day and it varies what it’s like.

Not useful I know.

We have come off it to see if there is a difference, as we don’t see them again till April.
