What is your worst experience when dealing with a wetting/soiling child?

My 7 year old DD suffers from constipation and soiling and it sometimes happens at night. Last weekend we stayed at my parents house and she had an accident during the night. so The next morning, I go in and wake her up and their is poo everywhere!! It was so embarrassing, as I had to tell my poor Mum what had happened and help her change the bed sheets. She is very particular as well.

My daughter, bless her, had tried to clean up as well... which just made it worse!

Another time was when we were on a bus going into town. My daughter was about 4 and could not hold on any longer and had wet herself. She didn't tell me and I didn't know until we got up for our stop and a couple grabbed our seats. One of them got up and said " oh, this seat is wet" they made eye contact with me just as we were stepping off the bus... I just wanted to hide in a paper bag somewhere!

So what are your most worst/ embarrassing experiences?

Coincidentally, my worst experience of soiling myself also occurred at my grandmother's house and also involved a bus ride home - I didn't wet myself on the bus but had to sit unchanged in messy pants, absolutely stinking and feeling totally humiliated. You can read about that day in my blog:

My daughters had a couple of bad experiences, once on a train home after having a supra pubic catheter fitted, we had lots of pads and pants but she just couldn't control the leaking and she had completely soaked her clothes and the seat, I really felt awful for her and I remember that particular train had a toilet but it wasn't available for some reason, the door was locked the whole journey.

The other thing she suffers with is when she is on her period, the leaking seems worse so it looks like a massacre in the bed bless her heart, I've had to give up trying to wash some of the sheets and just buy new ones, not fair on our kids is it :-(

Ah yes we have had a couple of embarrassing accidents, one time was at a hotel whilst on holiday. DD suffered from constipation, soiling and bed wetting for which although 7 years old she still had a nappy - one of the terry towel ones with plastic pants at night at home. Always worked for her and her bed stayed dry and and soiling or full poo's stayed inside, and just In case there was a plastic sheet on her bed with a towel beneath her bottom sheet just

Ok so come the holiday we decided to go with pull-ups - never thought about the bed. First morning very bright and early DD wakes up wet, and decided to take her pull up off. Realising we were still asleep she had got back into bed, fallen back to sleep. We woke up to the unmistakeable smell off poo. Pulled DDs covers back to discover a soaking wet and heavily soiled bed.

Moving forward a couple of years she no longer has a night nappy however whenever she is constipated - which is quite often and hasn't managed to poo on the loo before bed I make sure she wears a pair of full cut cotton knickers in bed as she will often do it during the night in her pants. The one time I forgot was at my best friends when we were staying over. I hadn't checked if she had been for a poo and at bedtime she got changed and went to bed when the other kids there went.. Let's just say the bikini pants she was wearing didn't cope with what came out during the night. My friend was really understanding but as the sheets were stained quite bad I went to her nearest Dunelm mill and replaced, her bedding..

During the summer last year DD had a bout of constipation which after 4'days of being un able to do anything on the loo DD got the urge on the beach and dropped the lot in her bikini. She didn't seem phased that others could see,. She was more happy that's she had done it and got the discomfort out of her tummy. The most embarrassing part though was walking to the toilet block about 1/4 mile away carrying a load of poo in a bucket.

Hi - I really identify with this story - my own children have not had problems luckily but i had a soiling problem and i remember an identical experience when I was 7 and soiled myself in bed at my grandparents house. I was totally oblivious to the accident until I woke up covered in poo. This episode was a long time ago now but I can still remember it vividly. Hope you have got over the experience now and you are all okay. Main thing is not to feel bad about it. Take care.
