hi i'm new to here. My Daughter has suffered with constipation since the day she was born (she didn't go for 6 days) always had trouble going on medication from a very young age. When toilet training it became even more apparent she was going to have trouble she had no control of her bowel movements she suffered for years had accidents at primary school but it all seemed to calm when she was about 10/11 she went secondary school and seemed so much better medication was managed as and when needed as advised by consultant she was even signed off from consultant and bowel and bladder nurse which seemed to be such a happy time after years of it for her. She is now 14 and in year 10 at secondary and its all got bad again :( she didn't go toilet for a week had a bit of overflow that just came out in her pants and was in agony until she went. Then the following week was the same so the doctor advised lots of movicol to get rid of the impaction in her bowels and it all came out she been taken medicine regularly and has been going ok since the, then last night had an awful accident she had no time to get to the toilet and it all came out :( she had to get in the shower as was in such a mess. She's had so much time off school in this last month due to it as advised by doctor and school is in full support in case she has an accident at school. I just don't know what to do. she is off school again today cause I just couldn't bare for her to be there today just in case and although she is taking it all so well she was worried about going in as well. im taking her doctors later asking for urgent referral to bowel and bladder team and just for them to see her she's so so pale all the time. know it may be due to her body getting ready to start periods maybe? she had bloods done last week and they are all ok. Her diet is ok normal teenager she's fussy as hell but what she does it is good but she doesn't really like meat and is a sod with fluids have to really nag her to drink but she will drink it and only drinks water really no tea or coffee at all and only fizzy drinks as a treat. Is there any one out there that Is going through this. I feel so low and tearful though won't show it to her. she's still my little girl and should be at school in an important year having fun with friends starting to think about boys and all she's got now is this. worry, missing school I just don't know what to do to help her xx

I know how you feel, my son is 16 in January and suffers with constipation and related problems as well as having undiagnosed mental health problems. I wish I could say something useful, I often look for advice regarding teenagers and don't find much help. I just feel we go around in circles most of the time.

I can’t offer much advice as my daughter is 7 but I just wanted to show my support after reading this post. I also have a teenage daughter but she doesn’t suffer with bowel issues like my youngest. I really feel for you and empathise with what you are feeling about all this going on when you want them to be doing ‘normal’ teenage things. Life can be so tough at times.

Did you see the GP? What did they say? Did you get a referral? I really hope you get some good sympathetic medical support. Sending support x
