Anxiety over poo....

Hi. This is my first post and I'm hoping someone may have some words of wisdom...

I have twin daughters aged almost 5 years. They are completely different in every sense - Other than the way in which they look. We celebrate these differences every day. But....my oldest twin has for 3 years massively struggled with poo. We seem to have tried every available dose of movicol but alas we can't seem to quite get there. On a daily basis we are now back to square one with poo accidents that range from soiling to full blown accidents that she says she can't feel. I'm so worried there something else going on as she constantly complains of tummy pain. We have a gp appt next week and I'm going to ask for a referral to specialist -I'm wondering whether anyone else has done this and had further tests etc? Any advice would be warmly received. I feel so sad for her and worried sick that she has an undetected problem....

This will sound very familiar to so many of us. My daughter has been on movicol for over four years. Things have improved but we usually have at least one accident a day and she is now eight. Movicol seems so difficult to get the dosage right and their sensitivity does go which probably means she is right when she says she can't feel it. I doubt if there is anything else wrong. Have a look at a you tube video by Sandra Hanson a nurse about disimpaction with macrogol( movicol) it's very helpful. Good luck you're not alone! X

Thankyou so much. I will check out that utube video today. It's such a pain for them isn't it. I'm so glad to have found this site. I have a feeling we will be regulars......

Have a look under Tackling childhood constipation and soiling with macrogol laxative. WWW.thepoohnursesuk. I should have given you the full title x

Well she's right - she can't feel it when she's on Movicol and so she will need to be taken to the toilet and made to sit and 'drain' 25 mins or so after meals, even if she says she doesn't have to go. And tummy pain is common when taking a laxative. It's not really 'pain' per se, but upset tummy.

Hi there, I know that this post is a month old but I was wondering how you were getting on? Did your gp refer you in the end?

I just wanted to ask if this was a withholding issue like my little lady?

We have been suffering since just after her 2nd birthday and didn't get on with movicol either. At 3 and a half, I am confident enough to say that not only have we cracked the poo problem but we have also managed to start toilet training this week and are on our 2nd day accident free, and she's had a normal stage 4 poo on the toilet every day since we started!

Please look through my previous posts and feel free to message me if our girls bowel problems sound similar.

If not best of luck with it all and I hope you find your solution soon.

Nikki x
