You are expecting too much too soon. My doc said 6-24 months and guess what. Doc was right. Started to see a little reaction at 6 and by 24 things were pretty much back to where they were pre surgery. In addition to pills, look at penis rings which hold the blood in the penis. 30 minutes max use.
I had a nerve sparing surgery, but unfortunately I never did regain the ability to have an unaided erection. My surgery was 7 years ago.
But to get enriching blood to your penis is important, not only for nerve repair and regeneration, but to keep your penis from shrinking.
For this reason I use a vacuum erection device daily which accomplish getting blood flow to the penis, and getting an healthy erection. I make it part of my morning bathroom routine. I inflate, shave, and shower with it in place.
Some urologists have their patients prescribed twice weekly injections of Trimix.
You could do both, but never at the same time.
If you are fortunate your nerves may regenerate and normal erections may return. It may take time.
In the mean time, if you use a vacuum erection device, or use Trimix you can have sex, which is still satisfying, even at 77 years of age!
I had a prostate removal at 49. I have never regained an unaided erection. Nothing has worked, no pump, no Cialis, no Viagra. Trimix works on and off. Knowing what I know now, I would have taken my chances. The Dr's lied to me.
Yep...too soon. Keep doing it all...vacuum, levels, etc. Play with whatever feels right at the time...viagra, injectables....they all have different effects at different phases....but keep your hope. I went through a RP 3 years ago,. Then a year later had to do ADT and salvage radiation. I used the injectables 3 months post surgery...worked for 6 months then stopped for some reason....even with different doses Viagra and Cialis give me terrible reflux for days after. Now, I get spontaneous night erections, but not what it was when trying to use it when called up. So, you adapt. Good sex can be more than penetration. It will never be what it was.....but I am still alive....and have time to figure it out.
I have had a radical prostatectomy 9 years ago. I am now 71, and unmarried. I agree with what the others said. I started out soon after surgery on Cialis for a short time, and then was prescribed the pump. I now use trimix. Don't give up the simulation. I never have been able to get a strong erection for penetration without trimix. Remember too, you can have an orgasm without an erection. Try different things to arouse and give you and your partner pleasure. Do NOT focus too much on getting hard. If you do, the doubt in your mind can also contribute to impotence. Take it slow and don't get discouraged. It takes time to heal.
Just turned 72. Had the surgery last November. Since then, Cialis didn't work, the shots were too painful and a pain in the neck as well, besides causing anxiety. I stopped about two months ago and now enjoy orgasms without erections without any anxiety and without having to plan in advance, simply enjoying what is. Nevertheless, I will be seeing a specialist in a month or so to discuss an implant, either soon or after 24 months, and if it would be even worth it in every sense.
Hi Bernard. I had my robotic prostatectomy/nerve sparing procedure last May. After using the pump frequently for the first six months I began seeing some minor improvements with erections, but nothing that permits full penetration yet. I have had success a few times with the pump/ring combo. I've also been using tri-mix injections and am still experimenting with the right dose. Unfortunately, like you, I've seen little improvement with Cialis/Viagara, but I keep using them when the time is right. Another user told me the Cialis helps with sensation even if the erection doesn't happen...the jury is out on that.
I'm trying to be patient as I just passed the one year mark a few months ago. I can say that I have seen enough improvement in one year to keep pumping and working with the tri-mix injections (once or twice a week).
Like I said before, don't focus too much on your erection. All the stress will affect your ability and performance. Remember, you can have a pleasurable orgasm WITHOUT an erection. I would discuss with your urologist the "next steps" in rehabilitation. You should discuss Tri mix. DON'T get discouraged, try to stay positive. DO try different things to get you and your partner aroused. More foreplay and touching, etc. As you said, "Hang in there"
